What an excellent book in every way – powerful, well written, deeply researched, provocative and passionate. And what a sad thing that 20 years since it was published, so little has changed!

Nov 25, 2011 08:53 amInvitations and Announcements of the Baltimore Social Elite 1890-1920blog

A couple boxes from an estate sale which passed through several hands ended up in my hands. One box contained printed formal invitations to weddings, luncheons and dances. I typed some of the names into Wikipedia, and discovered the Baltimore, Maryland business, political and social elite, in the period from 1890 to 1920.

In addition, thousands of people prayed and feel now that their prayers were answered, and they will never be convinced otherwise, by anything. Events like this have a nearly irresistible impact, skeptics be forewarned!
